The Red River Gorge Trail Crew

A Volunteer Non-Profit Organization

The Red River Gorge Trail Crew has been working to provide safe access to the Red River Gorge in east-central Kentucky for more than 20 years. As dedicated partners of the United States Forest Service, our volunteers have contributed countless hours to providing the public with a well maintained trail system throughout the gorge, and the region beyond.

In 2020 The Red River Gorge Trail Crew incorporated as a non-profit organization.

As a non-profit we will be able to continue our tradition of maintaining the trail system of the Red River Gorge and ensure the Trail Crew has a future regardless of what changes may come in the region.

Over the next year we will be transitioning to a new membership system that honors the commitment of our volunteer base, while allowing us to develop an organization that can meet its future needs. This process is on-going, and updates will be made available as soon as they are ready.

We are always looking for new members!

Join us on the trail as we care for and explore Kentucky’s “Unforeseen Wilderness.”

Learn to work the trail from experienced leaders who can show you how to safely and responsibly maintain a path through this sensitive landscape. Work with a combination of 19th century tools and modern ingenuity to keep the wilderness pristine and accessible.

After our volunteer outings we relax at our near-by volunteers only camp, and enjoy a pot-luck dinner and the company of our new friends from the trail!

Due to Covid-19 we have been forced to limit attendance at our monthly outings. We are also requiring volunteers to follow US Forest Service employee safety guidelines during outings. These measures will be on-going for the foreseeable future.
